Charlotte and Belle's 1st Birthday Cakes

Yesterday was Charlotte and Belle's first birthday! We celebrated by having birthday cake last night. I was going to make one cake, but I would personally not want to share my birthday cake with someone else...
So I whipped this up just by throwing their favorite things in the mixer and baking it. I didn't use precise measurements, so I approximated here!

Peanut Butter-Pumpkin-Carrot-Oat Dog Cake

1 cup canned pumpkin puree
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup peanut butter
1 cup shredded carrots
2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup plain yogurt (as icing)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line a cake pan (I used 2-6" pans, or 1 9") with parchment.
Add pumpkin, eggs, milk and peanut butter to a mixer, mix until smooth.
Add carrots, baking powder, oats and flour, mix until just incorporated.
Pour into cake pan, place in the oven.
Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool on a wire rack until room temperature.
Spread with yogurt, serve!

Happy 3rd Birthday Pumpkin!

Today is my little Pumpkin Spice's 3rd birthday! We, well, I celebrated with the family this weekend by making a doggie birthday cake for her, her cousin Zoe, and aunt Lily. The gobbled it up very quickly!
*She also experienced another unfortunate scalping by the groomer :(

Dog Friendly Birthday Cake

1 c. whole wheat flour
1/4 c. peanut butter
1/2 c. shredded carrots
1 egg
1/2 c. plain yogurt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. skim milk
2 tbsp. light veggie cream cheese (for icing)
dog treat cutouts (for decorating)
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until just combined, pour into a parchment lined 8" cake pan and bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes, until golden brown and set when shaken.
Cool, ice with cream cheese, refrigerate until serving.

For my new niece!

My sister and brother-in-law welcomed a new pup into their family this week, so I had to bring her a present! I wrote this recipe down months ago and had been meaning to make it, but never got around to it. I knew this is what I should make for Zoe! I also made some treats for their friends' dog as well as my parents dog. Cutting the letters... not so fun, but very cute! I think the dogs liked them, they seem to be smiling!

Peanut Butter Dog Treats

1/2 c. natural peanut butter
3/4 c. skim milk
1 tsp. baking powder
2 c. whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 400. Mix pb and milk until smooth, add baking powder, then flour a bit at a time, more or less until it's no longer sticky and can be rolled out.
Cut out and bake for 12 minutes. Let cool on a drying rack and do not seal in an air-tight bag or they will get moldy.
